BLACK DEATH
I have recently enjoyed this grim and grisly 2010 film, directed by Christopher Smith, that I had not encountered until now. Set during the black death in the 1300s, soaked in doomy christian and pagan imagery, this is well worth a look for anyone interested in such things.
If you forget about things like historical accuracy (which is not really the point of this kind of film) then it's a worthy addition to the folk-horror and period-pulp tradition of British cinema and TV, spanning from The Witchfinder General to Tom Hardy's Taboo and Jez Butterworth's recent Britannia. As an added bonus, it stars Sean Bean. Recomended.
